Let's get it straight. The road to immortality does not run through the uncertain terrain of cloning. Producing your genetic double doesn't mean that you get to live another lifetime, it means that a human body like your own – exactly like your own, lives on but the "you" that lives within you dies when you do.

This talk of immortality through cloning fails to recognize that the soul cannot be cloned because it is in the image of God and thus cannot be manipulated as the physical body can.

Bodies can and will be reproduced in part and in whole one day. Like most scientific advances, however, the ethical battle lines will be drawn over the manner and application this new technology will take (ie, using discarded fetuses or other approaches in research, etc.).

Moral issues aside, the main challenge for us as Christians will be to convince people that the soul that resides in the donor body as well as that of the clone will both be in need of salvation through Christ.
