The Lord of Time
God is the Lord of time. He began time with the creation of the world and set in motion all its inner workings, including the beginning and end of every life. From galaxies to sparrows, from nations to individuals, nothing escapes His timing. Scripture reminds us that there is "an appointed time for everything" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
For humanity, patience becomes the school in which we learn the mysteries of God's timing. It teaches us not only how to wait but also how to understand His will. Through patience, we are trained to trust, and through trust, we come to know Him more deeply.
Within this school of time, there are three primary lessons:
1. Nothing happens until God wills it.
This lesson emphasizes the need for stillness. Without learning to be still, we will never discover peace in this world. Anxiety grows when we try to force results or rush the process, but peace comes when we rest in God's perfect timing, knowing He works all things together for good (Romans 8:28).
2. Time is not about minutes but about distance.
Waiting becomes suffering when we count minutes instead of living faithfully in the moment. Time spent "counting" feels wasted, but time spent "doing"–serving, learning, praying, and growing–becomes discovery. God's will is not revealed only in the end result but also in what we learn along the way. The journey is as much a part of His plan as the destination.
3. Ultimately, there is no time.
The greatest lesson is to move beyond time and live in the reality of eternity. In Christ, we are invited to step into eternal life now, if only in glimpses. Through worship, surrender, and obedience, we experience moments when time loses its grip. In the resurrection, this reality will be complete. Death and time will no longer bind us; we will exist perpetually in His presence.
Time, then, is not merely a sequence of passing moments–it is God's classroom for the soul. If we allow patience to teach us, we will not only learn how to live in time but also how to prepare for life beyond it, with Christ, forever.
