Keeping Up
They said computers would simplify our lives. They didn't tell us that this would only happen if we kept up with the software upgrades.
Seriously though, haven't you noticed that it's getting more and more difficult to just "keep up" with everything? Practice and rehearsals for the kids, church activities, work, caring for family, housekeeping, car repairs, family celebrations of every kind (birthdays, grandparents day, and every other "day" that needs tending to).
Every time I read a magazine or watch TV there is a new crisis or discovery that demands my attention or understanding. I've gotten to the point where all I can do to keep up is catalogue what's going on because I neither have the time, intelligence, or emotional strength to understand it all, let alone get involved.
I thank God at these moments that my salvation is not based on how well I keep up with everything but rather how I keep the faith in Jesus Christ. The world gets digital, computers talk back to us, babies are born in a bottle -- still the only thing that remains the same is the fact that Jesus Christ is Lord of this world, no matter how fast it's spinning.
This, thankfully, I can keep up with.
