It's a Comforting Thought...
It's a comforting thought that God will not place a burden on us that we can't carry. Paul put it this way,
...and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it.
- I Corinthians 10:13
We often think that this verse only refers to sin and disobedience and God's help in overcoming these. But think of those times you've been tempted to quit and found the strength to go on, tempted to sink into despair and somehow caught the glimmer of a brighter day that brought new cheer, wasn't God there behind the clouds as well?
The essential promise here is that for His children, a death will be comforted by a friend or deeper meaning; an illness will be supported by ministry of some kind; an emptiness will be filled by His mercy. The escape is not always from sin, sometimes it's from sadness.
I sometimes worry about coping with the absolutes of everything but He promises that He will make sure that I can make it, that it won't ever be as bad as I'm always afraid that it's going to be. It's a comforting thought.
