Are we Bound to the Laws in the Old Testament?

Dear Mike,
I am studying the Bible and reference your site often for clarity and have found it useful but would like to learn more about your doctrine. I was told your religion believes in Old Testament laws rather than New testament promises. Is this true?

As for your question concerning the Old Testament, as far as I know, Churches of Christ believe that the Old Testament is inspired by God and useful for us to understand the New Testament, however, we are not bound to its laws and ordinances since these were given to the Jewish people under the old covenant. As Christians today we are under the new covenant established by Christ and His sacrifice on the cross.
