We Are Family
It's a blessing to be together. Life has its difficult times, but it is so encouraging to assemble, shake hands, greet new faces, hug old friends, and walk among God's family.
As part of our series, This Is Us (Acts 2), we've been asking: Who are we as the Choctaw Church of Christ? What are we all about?
- In week one, we reminded ourselves that we are only a people because of Jesus — guilty of His death, witnesses to His resurrection, and now part of His kingdom.
- In our last lesson, we said we are "all in" on the apostles' teaching, devoted to God's Word.
- Today, we see another truth: We are family.
The church is not just a place we go. It's not just acquaintances. Jesus calls us into community. Acts 2 shows that when people repented and were baptized, they were not only saved but also added to something greater — God's people, His family.
Faith was never designed to be lived alone. Christianity is not "just me and Jesus." God calls us to live with one another, shaping each other through study, worship, accountability, and service. We need one another.
- The early church lived like family:
- They learned together.
- They ate and broke bread together.
- They prayed together.
- They sacrificed and shared with each other.
- They praised God and impacted others together.
They were more than acquaintances — they were truly family. Jesus even said in Matthew 12: "Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
So how do we live as family today?
- Be intentional – closeness doesn't happen by accident. Reach out, invite, connect.
- Be mindful – notice those who are alone or hurting and draw them in.
- Be forgiving – we are only a family because of Christ's forgiveness. We must forgive one another.
God calls us not only to Himself but also to each other. Let's truly live as His family.
