Paul breaks off his general discussion on grace in order to focus on his personal struggle with sin.

Discussion Questions
  1. Paul admits that even as a saved man, he still struggles with sin. How does his honesty encourage us in our own walk with Christ?
  2. The lesson compares the Law to an x-ray–something that reveals sin but cannot cure it. How does this analogy help us better understand the Law's role in God's plan of salvation?
  3. Paul describes the painful tension between his regenerated spirit that desires God's will and his sinful flesh that resists it. When have you personally felt this kind of inner conflict?
  4. The lesson points out that the very existence of this struggle is a sign of spiritual life. Why is it important to recognize struggle with sin as evidence of genuine faith rather than failure of faith?
  5. Paul cries out, "Who will set me free from the body of this death?" and then answers, "Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!" How does keeping our focus on Christ change the way we endure and respond to ongoing struggles with sin?
