Perfection: The Absolute Standard

There is something wrong with the title of this series, can you spot it? Here it is: You cannot have a 'more' perfect something or someone. You are perfect or you are not. Once something is perfect (without blemish or error) you cannot improve on it.

  1. What is your definition or understanding of the concept of perfection?
  2. How does the world's view of perfection differ from a Christian's view of perfection?
  3. Use Matthew 5:48 to answer the following questions:
    • What or who is our ultimate standard?
    • Why do we, as believers in Jesus Christ strive for perfection knowing we cannot attain it?
  4. Discuss from the text the effects on someone who believes in Jesus regarding perfection.
  5. Summarize the choice and consequences of our choice as discussed from Galatians 5:13-25 and I Peter 1:5-7.
  6. Discuss the following statement: Perfection is not something we do, it is something we seek and become.
  7. How can you use this lesson to grow spiritually and help others come into a relationship with Jesus?
