You Can Dream

Article by:

You can dream. God gave you a mind that is not limited to your physical time and location. With very little effort you can imagine yourself being in a different place a different time, being able to do things you can't actually do.

Right now you can imagine you are flying under your own power like a bird soaring above the trees, or you can imagine you are swimming in the ocean deep underwater breathing with gills like a fish.

These types of dreams, these imagined places can transport you in such a powerful way that when you dream at night and wake up in the morning it sometimes takes you a while to get your bearings, to figure out where you are and what day it is. Even though consciously you know you never left the room, some dreams are so real they give you an emotional charge, like you were actually there.

The Bible has a great deal to say about dreams.

  • Joseph had dreams and he was hated for them, Genesis 37:5.
  • He also had the gift of interpreting dreams for others, Genesis 40:12.
  • Daniel had the gift of interpreting dream as well, Daniel 2:4.

In the past God often spoke to prophets through dreams, Hebrews 1:1, requiring the prophet to relate his dreams to others accurately.

The prophet who has a dream may relate his dream, but let him who has My word speak My word in truth. What does straw have in common with grain?" declares the Lord.
- Jeremiah 23:28

As we read in the Bible about the amazing things God was able to do through ordinary people, in every case it started with a dream.

Do you have a dream of what God can do through you?

Without dreams we are merely church attenders, plodding along Sunday to Sunday but not really going anywhere. Using the Bible as your guide, put your God-given imagination to good use and formulate a dream for what God can do through you.
