What makes a person want to come to church?
It's normally when a friend or family member invites them. Rarely does someone just come on their own unless it is someone sincerely reaching out to the Lord.
"I called on Your name, O LORD, Out of the lowest pit. You have heard my voice, 'Do not hide Your ear from my prayer for relief, From my cry for help.' You drew near when I called on You; You said, 'Do not fear!' O Lord, You have pleaded my soul's cause; You have redeemed my life."
- Lamentations 3:55-58
Some people come to church seeking God because they are hungry for answers, clamoring for something to bring them up from gloom and hopelessness. People want to be heard and God hears us.
They get to assemble with Christians, brothers and sisters in Christ who are also seeking the ear of God. We cry to Him to help us drive sin out of our lives. We need His grace to forgive us for the sins of our past and give us hope for the future. We want Him to hear our united songs of praise and we want to hear from Him through the instruction that comes from His Holy Word.
Today is Sunday, a day to be set aside for worship. Turn down your cell phone. Better yet, shut it off. You can survive without it. Don't think about jobs and work that needs to get done and places you have to go. Think about God.
Where would you be right now if you didn't have God in your life? You have seen through people around you, the result of living without God. How miserable to think that this world is all there is and to have nothing to look forward to after this life is over.
Today is God's day, and if you and God have drifted apart, get re-acquainted. Let go of worldly things. Bring your mind to the tranquil presence of God.
